The second-hand marketplace Shoppers Share Displeasure About Size Modifications
Members of the platform have expressed outrage after an update resulted in listings displaying inaccurate size information.
The second-hand shopping app has updated its size classifications for women's and children's garments failing to inform all users about the change.
Digital Channels Backlash
Many shoppers and sellers are posting online stating that platform listings now display an altered size classification versus the original listing as a result of the reclassification.
The platform stated the updated approach better aligns with other platforms.
It has advised users to check their listings and update the measurements by hand where appropriate, resulting in member annoyance.
Sizing System Updates
Earlier, the sizing featured one number and one letter, like S/8 or M/10.
The new system has a letter and a range such as S/UK 8-10.
In some cases, the sizing has been recategorised - like an L measurement was previously a 12 but now shows as UK 16-18.
Shopper Experiences
A fashion influencer, who creates plus-size fashion videos, said the change "makes both selling and buying harder".
"Not many brands say XL is a 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.
Another user, located in Scotland, stated items she posted on Vinted with size 14 labels were showing in the marketplace as size 20–22.
"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they will likely be quite upset," she explained.
Required Changes
Another shopper, based in Derby, explained she became annoyed by the change as she had to manually change the measurements for "each individual item".
"Personally, this is quite irritating, because of my ongoing medical condition and selling on Vinted has been paramount after experiencing income reduction," she explained.
Platform Context
The app has more than 100 million shoppers, comprising 18 million UK members.
It has become a favored option to second-hand platforms like eBay and Depop.
This represents another occasion that an unexpected update to the app has proved unpopular: previously, Vinted reversed a change to its shipping options following member complaints.
