A Number of Hurt as Rough Air Strikes Delta Aircraft into Sydney, Australia
Multiple passengers and crew were hurt following a Delta aircraft traveling from Los Angeles to Sydney was hit by significant turbulence this past Friday.
Flight DL41 "encountered brief turbulence" as it landed at the Sydney airport, a company official told. Several cabin crew members were injured.
Local paramedics stated they assessed five individuals, and transported three to a medical facility with non-life-threatening injuries that comprised spinal discomfort and headaches. The patients' ages ranged from their 30s to 70s.
This marks the latest incident of commercial jets being hit by atmospheric disturbance, with researchers indicating that global warming is a key driver.
On board were 245 passengers and a crew of 15 on the aircraft, the official said, clarifying that the plane arrived "safely" at Sydney Airport at 6:48 a.m. local time on the day in question.
Paramedics indicated they got a call just only 180 seconds ahead of the plane landed, and emergency vehicles were ready and waiting at the airport.
